Therapy & Support
Sometimes life gets heavy. We’re here to help carry some of it.Reaching out is rarely easy — for young people especially, it can take a lot to get to this point. Whether you’re a parent trying to find the right support for your child, a young person looking for somewhere to land, or an adult navigating something difficult, we’re glad you’re here.
At The Talking Couch, we work with people, not diagnoses. We take the time to understand you — your history, your relationships, the things that have shaped you — because good support can’t happen without that foundation.
We don’t follow a single script or method. Instead, we draw on a range of evidence-based approaches and shape our work around you and what you’re carrying. What stays constant is the quality of the relationship: honest, respectful, and genuinely collaborative.
What we can help with
Whatever brings you here, you don’t need to arrive with the right words or a clear picture of what’s wrong. Common reasons people come to us include:
Anxiety, worry, and panic — Depression and low mood — Trauma and difficult experiences — OCD and intrusive thoughts — Grief and loss — Relationship difficulties — Questions about identity, sexuality, or gender — Self-harm and suicidal thoughts — Stress, burnout, and feeling overwhelmed — Life transitions and uncertainty — Neurodivergence and the challenges that can come with it
This list is not exhaustive — if you’re not sure whether we can help, please get in touch.
How we work
We offer individual support, as well as working with couples and with families. Each is described below — but the thread running through all of it is the same: we follow your lead, we work at your pace, and we believe you are the expert on your own life.
Individual Support
One-to-one sessions for young people and adults. Whether you’re dealing with something specific or just know that something isn’t right, this is a space to work it through.
Couples & Sex Therapy
For people navigating their relationship, their intimacy, or their sexuality — together or on their own.
Family-Informed Work
Sometimes understanding a person means understanding their family. We draw on family systems thinking where it’s useful, and occasionally work with families together.
We are a private practice in Nowra, NSW. Medicare rebates are available for psychology sessions. We also offer counselling through Victims Services NSW for those who are eligible.
