ADHD assessment

for adolescents and young adults (12-24 years)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is currently categorised as a neurodevelopmental disorder. Its key features include problems with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. This may harm a person’s well-being in key life areas, like psychological health, education, jobs, social life, and relationships. ADHD also runs in families. ADHD is increasingly viewed as a distinct brain type, marked by lifelong differences in attention, emotions, cognition, and behaviour. A brain motivated by novelty, interest, and urgency underpins it. These traits may have a detrimental effect on a person’s social life and participation. However, it may also build strengths, including the capacity for intense concentration and sped up learning and skill development in areas of personal interest compared with individuals without ADHD. It is important to understand that ADHD is a treatable condition. Through the combined use of treatments like psychotherapy and medication, the condition is manageable and need not negatively affect someone’s life.
