For professionals
Half of all the mental health conditions we experience at some point in our lives will have started by age 14.
Over 75% of mental health problems occur before the age of 25.
The Talking Couch provides mental health services to youth, young adults, and their families. Our practitioners are very experienced in dealing with the psychological challenges of this age group, and they continuously extend their highly developed clinical skills by integrating recent developments in youth mental health care. In our practice, we aim to use the best possible treatment option for each client. May this be psychodynamic, trauma-informed, psychosocial, cognitive-behavioural, narrative, mindful, or any of the other practical treatment options our practitioners are familiar with. Often a combination is the best way forward, outlined in a treatment plan for each of our clients.
While clinical psychological assessment and diagnosis are essential and important parts of our work, we believe it is the treatment which makes a difference in people’s lives. Sadly today, there can be a greater systemic focus on assessment and diagnosis of young people, rather than provision of long-term treatment and intervention options for them, especially for more complex presentations. At The Talking Couch, we believe it is our responsibility to give our clients the best treatment they deserve, which is ultimately driven by their needs and the supporting evidence for treatment options.
We are always keen to meet new health care professionals.
